As Christians, we know that our battle is not against flesh and blood. Rather, we have a spiritual enemy that needs to be constantly engaged and resisted. So how can we engage in spiritual battle and fight back against this spiritual enemy? Here are four ways to do just that.
- Pray. Prayer is the most powerful weapon we can use in spiritual battle. Not only does it give us an opportunity to talk to God, but it also opens us up to His insight and protection. When we pray, we are essentially making a Stand against the enemy and claiming victory over their schemes. And when we pray in faith, we can be certain that our prayers will be heard and answered, no matter what the circumstance.
- Read and meditate on God’s Word. When we spend time reflecting on God’s Word, we are reminded of His truths and promises and that gives us the strength and courage to stand firm in spiritual battle. Plus, the more we study and meditate on His Word the more we understand the tools we have to overcome the enemy.
- Worship. Worshiping God is a powerful way to fight back against the enemy. It reminds us that God is in control and that He is on our side. Whenever we worship, we are actively expressing our faith in Him and His power to save us and protect us.
- Practice spiritual disciplines. Living a life of obedience to God is key in spiritual battle. Deuteronomy 6:5-7 warns us to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and with all your strength”. Doing so provides us with the faith and strength we need to stand against our spiritual adversary. Additionally, partaking in spiritual disciplines such as fasting and silence help us to stay attuned with the presence of God and His will in our lives.
Living a life of faith involves engaging in spiritual battle against the enemy. By incorporating prayer, reading and meditating on God’s Word, worshipping Him, and practicing spiritual disciplines into our daily lives, we can learn to stand firm and resist the enemy and their tactics every day.
